Acer Aspire AS1410-2285 Notebook comes with these specs: Intel Celeron Processor SU2300, Windows 7 Home Premium, 11.6″ HD Widescreen CineCrystal LED-backlit Display, Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset, 2048MB DDR2 667MHz Memory, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, 160GB SATA Hard Drive, Acer Crystal Eye Webcam, Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader, Dolby Sound Room Audio Enhancement, Intel WiFi Link 1000 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N, 3 – USB 2.0 Ports, 1 – HDMI Port, Multi-gesture Touchpad, 6-cell Li-ion Battery (4400 mAh), up to 6-hours of battery life, 3.08 lbs. | 1.4 kg (system unit only), AC Power Adapter, AC Power Cord, Wireless Setup Card, Registration / Limited Warranty Card, McAfee Internet Security Suite (60-day insert)

Acer Aspire AS1410-2285 11.6-Inch Black Laptop Reviews.

I agree with the previous reviewer: I chose this model with the SU2300 because of the additional performance associated with the dual core CPU. Since I consider anything less than 13″ a netbook (such as this) I had no need for a 250GB hard drive the other model came with. The version I am reviewing is BLACK in color.

The Pros of this model:
-Windows 7 Home Premium runs, in my opinion, faster than XP would. Fantastic!
-AERO runs great
-The beefy graphics card and HDMI-out works great for watching HD movies on HULU or Youtube and putting them on a big screen TV with HDMI
-2GB RAM!
-Decent webcam
-Draft N wireless
-Nice sized and sturdy keyboard
-Lightweight and the size of an 8×11 piece of paper (thicker of course)
-The battery does not stick out the back like other netbooks

The Cons:
-Speakers didn’t sound loud enough when sitting on my lap, but headphones do the trick
-Touchpad is a little square, I wish it was a bigger rectangle
-No bluetooth yet the button to turn it on and off is still there, kind of odd
-Glossy shell leaves finger prints
-Acer Pre-installed Bloatware (games, norton backup, google toolbar, MacAfee trial, etc)
-NO Windows OEM DISK! This drives me nuts if you ever need to reinstall but I think Acer has some backup partition (Alt+F10 or something at start up)

In all, this computer is blazing fast, has Windows home premium, great for school, or work. I have not tested the battery life yet, but I assume it goes for about 4 or 5 hours of regular use since it is 6-cell.

Ignoring colors, Acer now has two different AS1410 Windows 7 laptops at the same $400 price point: Dual Core SU2300 with 160GB hard drive and a Single Core Celeron 743 with a 250GB hard drive. I chose this model with the SU2300 because of the additional performance associated with the dual core CPU.

Pros: 3.1 lbs, compact size, 6 hour battery, SU2300 performance, keyboard, 1366×768 LED-backed display, Intel GMA4500MHD graphics, 802.11n Wi-Fi, HDMI, webcam

Cons:
- Touchpad buttons too stiff, also, left button does not always register a click
- Glossy top cover attracts fingerprints
- No dedicated volume control (have to use arrow keys)
- Glossy screen shows reflections (I would prefer a matte screen)
- No bluetooth
- No esata
- 2 GB of memory comes as 2x1GB SODIMMs so if you want to upgrade to 4GB, you have to chuck the existing memory. Note that specs on Acer’s website incorrectly indicate that the 2GB comes in a single SODIMM leaving a slot empty for upgrading.

In summary, the AS1410 could be better but for $400, it is a pretty good ultra portable laptop value. Amazon did a good job of packing it and shipping it quickly. Recommended.

Acer Aspire AS1410-8000 Series 11.6-Inch Laptop – 6 Hour Battery Life Reviews.

This laptop turned out to a be very good buy. This is the 2nd laptop I bought in the last few months. One for my son and one for my daughter. Both love the fact that it has a small form factor, light weight, and yet it is not so small as a netbook.

But as other reviewers have pointed out, the laptop feels slugish right out of the box, until the Aero is disabled and all the crapware uninstalled.

I’ve had my computer for about a week now and am very satisfied with its capabilities. I’ve used faster computers, but not of this size and frankly I didn’t buy this for the speed. My primary uses for my Acer are e-mail, surfing, IM, and the occassional Office application work (such as typing this in Word to make sure I don’t embarrass myself with spelling errors!).

On to the things you may want to know if you’re in the market:

Pros: size, weight, battery, fast wireless connectivity compared to my ooooold Gateway laptop, 5-in-1 card reader very handy, powers and interfaces with the external hard drive well, no problem viewing *.avi movies recorded with my Hero cam directly from the hard drive, no problems viewing videos on line so far

Cons: keyboard a bit prone to causing mis-strokes since the keys are flat with no “cup” whatsoever, no Windows system disk included (I have yet to find the time to contact Acer about this to see if I can download the OS…I’d appreciate any advice on this!), sound isn’t great through the internal speakers but probably right on line with what you would expect in a computer this size, touch pad lacks defined edges (though I’m adapting to it easily).

All-in-all, I recommend this computer. I rated it at 4 stars due to some of the minor shortcomings but given the choice I would choose this again over other computers.

This netbook ships with 32-bit Vista and 2 GB ram. It’s adequate but hardly impressive. The OS installation adds a surprising amount of bloatware which take a long time to load. The extra programs nag quite a bit and require constant updates – the laptop was always slow for the first 10-15 minutes after boot due to the various updates and automatic downloads. Once I stripped these out and bumped the memory to 4 GB it got better but still wasn’t any faster than my ancient P4 2.8 with XP Pro. As I use my laptop on the road and do minimal video editing I had planned to use Vista and Windows Movie Maker. Though this machine is not really designed for multimedia, I was surprised that loading any AVI or WMV files pretty much froze it.

I use Ubuntu x64 and Kino on my desktop, and out of curiosity I loaded it onto this system. All went very smoothly; the wireless worked perfectly but I did wind up installing a driver for the Ethernet NIC manually. I got Kino, ffmpeg, and Flash running without mishap, and I’m editing and trimming a 300 mb AVI outdoors in the sunshine as I write this. I have to say the performance with Ubuntu 9.04 x64 is far better than I expected and it’s more than usable as an inexpensive travel system. It’s not as fast as a new Macbook Pro, but it’s a *lot* cheaper.

Pros:
Speed (for the price)
Screen GREAT for a netbook!
64 bit chip!
Holds 4 GB ram
Decent HDD
Keyboard
3 USB ports
Surprisingly good wireless
Whole system w/ extra memory only about 450.00

Cons:
Ships with bloated 32 bit Vista. I expect it would be faster with XP or 64 bit Windows 7 (it does have an upgrade to Win7 option)
Battery not really six hours – more like 4 – 4.5
Acer tech support only so-so.

As the de facto tech department for a number of organizations, I have used and configured a number of Asus, Samsung and Dell netbooks; I consider the this the first one that’s truly usable every day. The 1410 is the one I bought.

Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ-4274 15.6-Inch Laptop – 8+ Hours Battery Life Reviews.

This is a great laptop. I read reviews and info about this for more than a month before laying down the cash for it. I’ve been extremely happy with it. It’s thin and sexy. It’s light (especially for a 15 inch laptop). It’s extremely cool. The performance is good but not amazing. I mostly work with music editing and notation software and this laptop has handled all them fine. I play games online with it and I have yet to find a game that it can’t handle (it should be noted I only play games from the browser and have no idea how a real computer game would do, but I know since this doesn’t have a graphics card it probably wouldn’t do well with 3d graphics, but I dont really know.) For everyday computing this computer has all the power you need. The 15 inch model is great too. The keyboard is full sized (which was somewhat of an adjustment after using cramped keyboards for so long) and the number pad is extremely helpful (at least to me).

The battery life is why you buy this computer. All day computing is no lie. I used to own a Dell and a Toshiba which got about 3 hours battery life at best, and then up to 10 minutes as they got old. It’s been hard to break the habit of packing my power adapter when I leave but I’ve never needed it. I can go to school all day, take my computer to class, work in the library or cafeteria and never need to worry about running out of juice. If I crank it up to “High Performance” I can get a solid 5 to 6 hours of battery, on “Power Saver” I get an easy 8 and a half and if I turn off the WiFi I can get a little more then 10 hours. I’ve never, never, never, run it down completely during normal use.

Overall a great computer at a great price. Everything you need with an unbelievable battery life. Free yourself from the wall socket and buy this computer!

Unless you play very demanding 3D games, the Acer AS5810(15.6″), AS4810(14.4″) or AS3810 (13.7″) is the one for everyone.

- Thin and light, 5.4 to 3.5 lb, < 1″, nothing else I know of is like this. – Cool, very thoughtfully designed to avoid heat buildup. Metal top, lots of spaces between keys. Bottom is never warm, palm rest area is absolutely cold, incredible. – Quiet, as it is so cool, the fan never speeds up to make noticeable noise. – LED backlight, should last forever and save battery. – 8-hour battery life, never need to carry the AC adapter for the day. Never worry about empty battery, just concentrate on your work. – Metal lid, looks VERY VERY good. This thing looks better and slimmer than MacAir, no kidding. – Number keys included. – Only $[...], even cheaper than other thick, heavy, hot and noisy craps. My son, senior high, carries it in his backpack together with many thick books. This is not a demanding 3D gaming machine, exactly a good thing for a student. If you want to save $[...], then get the Dell i1545, just heavier, thicker and shorter battery life, but a real dual core CPU, unbelievable deal. The only stupid thing: I’ve seen crap ware installed in new PCs before, but Acer did it to the extreme on this laptop, like 100 trial games etc. It took me a whole day to uninstall them. Because no Vista CD included, so I could not just do a clean installation. Then I used Ghost to make a full back up for the partition 2, about 5 GB. No need to back up the partition 1, about 10 GB, it is the factory restore area and you can use Acer’s utility to burn them to DVD disks. Next time when a restoration is need, I can just restore the ghost and no need to uninstall the numerous crap ware again. I have used several laptops (work and personal), including the hyped ThinkPad T61, T500, T400. But the Acer Timline series laptops have really surprised me in terms of build quality, price, form factor, and battery life. If these are the things you care most, the Timeline is for you! My T400 never got passed 4hrs at the lowest CPU setting and LCD brightness. The Timeline consistently gives me over 5hrs (not the 8hrs+ as they claimed though) using Windows XP. Windows XP installation (over the default Vista Premium) was a straightforward task, as Acer website provides XP drivers so you don’t have to search anywhere. I tried both the 15.6″ and the 14″ version and personally I’d like the 14″ for its screen size, though both share the same 1″ thin dimension and similar battery life. The 15.6″ keyboard comes with a numeric keypad. For those people who complained about CPU spiked at 100% at random or eject button locked up the laptop, I had the same problems. After I updated it with the latest Intel graphics driver and Acer BIOS, all the problems went away! I am usually picky about what I use, but I have to give Acer a thumb up for such a great job. After all, it only costs $549! Can’t say the same for Lenovo ThinkPad which costs more, thicker (>1.2″), and only average battery life.
What’s the point of having wireless internet if you must plug in your power regularly? With the Timeline, I can truly roam most of my day without fear of running out of power.
My only complain about the 14″ version: if the mouse pad could move to the left about 1″, that would be perfect. As I type, my right palm occasionally touches the mouse pad that causes the mouse cursor to move. If Acer did this on the 15.6″ version, why not on the 14″?
