Good buy, Great for trail camera battery eaters,

I have D-40 Moultrie camera that eats batteries. Once I added this and located in a spot that utilizes the sun well, I have yet to replace the batteries. I made a mount out of a couple of old 2 foot 2×4′s that extends this panel about 2 feet from the tree and faced it south, as I’m in Montana, and it works great. The daily average solar readout gives you good feedback for adjusting this to maximize the solar energy from the sun.
The only complaint that I have is like many others that have written reviews. The 12 volt plug doesnt fit very tight. To overcome this I tucked the cord under the camera straps to help support it.
I recomend this for anyone using a Moultrie camera.

Up date. After playing with this in the field I have found that if you push the plug into the camera harder, it snaps into place and the camera holds the plug great. I have many great pictures of elk and deer that have passed under my tree stand.

I purchased this for my 1985 Camaro. I mounted it under the dash toward the front. I tested it thoroughly on top of the dash and underneath the dash, and it worked exactly the same either place. The dash on this car is made of some kind of urethane, so there is no metal covering it. It works noticeabley better with the amplified wire plugged in. I plugged that wire into my “power-antenna” wire on the radio so that the amp doesn’t run when the radio is off. Reception was at least as good as stock antenna. Very happy with the product.

I bought this product so that I could remove the antenna from my 1500 goldwing. It works quite well but has slightly less reception than the stock wip antenna that comes on the goldwings. I felt it was a good buy for the price and the performance is reasonable. I wouldn’t buy it if you are looking for boosted performace over stock.
It is fairly small and the cable was of reasonable length.

Build Quality:
* Great build quality. Has the look and feel of a well engineered product, not some cheap stuff.
* I smiled when I lifted it first as it wasn’t feather light and appeared to have decent enough weight to it – an indication of a decent power supply.
* This one seems to be rated for marine use and hence should be more resistant to corrosion.
* The connector cables are thick enough and the clamps have enough spring action/grip to them to securely lock on a battery terminal.

Design:
* Very user friendly with direct 1 touch access to most features.
* I liked the case design. Has a neat little pocket to store the power chord and the connecting cables. The chord and the cables do need to be tightly rolled up first before they can fit in the pocket.
* It’s got a neat little handle that you can use to hang it up on the wall. Neat design if battery charging is something that you do more frequently and want to have the unit easily accessible, ready to use but out of the way off the floor.

Features:
Well, I haven’t used it extensively enough (Used only twice since I got it a month back), but here are some features that were used (and so experienced) when I used the charger:
* Shows level of charge on a battery – both in percentage as well as volts. Big readout makes it easy to read all the numbers.
* Has user selectable 2/6/10 amp charging options – good for most batteries. Would have liked a 1 amp option as well (for smaller motorcycle batteries), but then that’s a different product from Schumacher. The 2 amp option, though slightly higher than recommended, worked great for the motorcycle battery though. So this unit really allows charging a wide range of batteries- for motorcycles, cars, boats. Nice to have just one charger around rather then 1 for each type of vehicle/battery.
* The electronics worked just as mentioned. Once I selected the primary amp setting, everything else was handled automatically by the charger electronics. It switched to a trickle mode charge automatically once the battery was completely charged. Neat feature, keeps your batteries from being damaged by overcharging.
* Has a desulfation mode that desulfates a battery. Of the two instances when I used this charger, it kicked into this mode on my car battery which was completely drained and was left in the completely discharged state for quite some time that resulted in sulfation in the battery. This charger automatically detected this state of the battery and desulfated it first and then automatically switched to charging mode once the battery was desulfated and accepted charge. (I will be honest with you – I don’t really know the chemistry and process behind this, but I have read that sulfation can render a battery useless)
* Has a cooling fan to keep the charger cool. Not exactly whisper quiet, but not something that’s louder than expected (YMMV) for the application.

Reliability:
Have only owned it for a month and used it twice, so can’t really comment on long term reliability. But it has worked perfectly on the two instances I had to use it including it’s “automatic” features. So, for the price (I got it when it was about 50% of MSRP at Amazon), it’s one awesome, feature-rich charger.

Battery chargers and I have never gotten along. I actually once sold, what turned out to be, a perfectly good old snow plow truck because I thought something serious was wrong with the engine. The charger showed the battery was good, so I figured it had to be the engine and it was too old and rusty to put more money into it. The guy came to pick it up, gave me $200…stuck a new battery in it, and drove it away. It was a bad charger not a bad battery.

Fast, free shipping and discounted price made for a great value purchase. Have used to charge dual batteries for diesel trucks. Works great! Did not start truck in start mode until 10 minutes of charge on completely dead batteries, but that may be normal for any charger in 200 amp start mode. Casing very thin, and wheels light duty, which is just fine unless you are in an abusive environment. The wheels work fine because the unit is not very heavy. I am very happy with this unit and would highly recommend it so long as you know how to calculate how long to charge your batteries (although the timer could have a larger time range for charging dual, parallel connected batteries). This is a manual charger that you can set the charge time for up to 2-1/2 hours at user selectable 40 or 2 amps. I don’t trust my memory to leave it charge in continuous mode.

The Schumacher SE-4022 battery charger has, so far, performed flawlessly. It has versatile settings, volt and amp readouts, and is simple to use. This jewel is very light to pack a 50Amp punch. I connected it to a battery insufficient to turn over the starter. The guy working on the house left his light on in the truck bed. I connected the charger to the battery while in the 2Amp mode, then plugged the battery charger into the 120VAC receptacle. I then switched it to the 50Amp selection and allowed to charge the battery for 4-5 minutes. While the charger was still connected to the battery, the guy was able to start his truck. Man was I blown away. Following the instructions, I changed the charging selection switch to the 2Amp mode, disconnected the charger from the 120VAC receptacle, and then disconnected it from the battery. How sweet – no arcing, no sparking. This is a must have!!! Excellent value and quality.

I purchased this to replace the Schumacher battery charger that I had for 30+ years when I discovered that the leads had gotten hard and cracked exposing both the 110 v. and the 12 v. wires. I did a lot of research and found this to be the best value, free shipping and no sales tax in addition to a low purchase price. It is now on the shelf for use in next emergency situation.

I would have given it 5 stars, but did not have the opportunity to evaluate the 50A charge/start mode. Overall this unit functions perfectly, and its light weight and ample AC cord and battery cable length make it easy to hook up and use. I have used other chargers previously, but none had the automatic shut off and trickle charge modes.

After having the battery on my “summer only” convertible go
flat last winter I decided to invest in a battery maintainer.
The Schumacher SEM-1652A was the best compromise of price (around
$40 with shipping), features (a normal charging rate, and a
lower maintaining rate, with overcharge protection and indicator
lights), and small size (fits easily under the hood by the
master cylinder, battery wiring adaptor with quick connect makes installation and removal a snap.
I’d add a few extra crimp-on terminals of various ring sizes to the kit,
so different power connections with the wiring adaptor could be made
(my car has the battery mounted in the front fender well, I had to get
larger ring terminals to go on the remote jump starting terminals
under the hood.

This is a great charger but the same company (schumacher’s battery maintainer), makes an identical product for sears, branded as diehard.
It costs the same as on amazon but comes with a 3 year warranty, not the standard 1 yr. warranty found here. Plus you don’t have to deal with shipping hassles when you can just go to your local sears and pick one up or exchange if you have problems.

Very good item for charging and maintaining batteries. Have used on my motorcycle and car batteries, as well as my lawn mower battery. Works well and actually tells you when the battery is fully charged, which is one of the best features of this charger

I am fortunate enough to maintain two houses – one in the mid-West for the summer and a second one in the Palm Springs area for the winter. Rather than drive 1500 miles each way I have a couple of cars in each location so each set will sit idle for six months of the year which means I usually have two dead batteries when I arrive for the season. I tried a cheaper brand of trickle charger in the desert last year and it worked but I was afraid that if it burned out I would still return to dead batteries. I really like the quality of the Schumacher products having two of their multifunction battery chargers that have worked well for over 10 years. When I saw that they offered high quality trickle chargers I bought two of them to make the switch to worry free charging. The chargers are well built and heavy for their size and the build quality is typical Schumacher. The chargers are intended to be installed in the engine compartment with battery connections that are permanently connected to the charger and for power a short plug comes out of the side of the unit and is easily connected to a grounded extension cord. I really didn’t want to install these under the hood even though they supply the mounting brackets and screws required but I did like the idea of the permanent connection to the battery as opposed to a clamp which could fall off in the middle of the season and leave me with a dead battery. Remembering how the chargers connected in the Power Wheels toys my sons had several years ago, I was able to find polarity keyed plug connectors in the trailer wiring section of the local auto parts store and now have a short pigtail permanently connected to the battery and the ability to plug and unplug it into the charger when I want. Now I have the best of all worlds, the security of a solid connection to the battery and the flexibility of being able to plug and unplug the charger with ease. I like this a lot.

Works great to keep your battery topped off on cold winter nights, and for days of long storage. Instead of dragging out your conventional charger and cables, then putting everything away when finished! Just mount this small unit under your hood, plug in a small AC extension cord, and close the hood. (not affecting alarm operation). It can charge a dead battery (not recommended) but it can take 24 to 36 hours.

I installed this in one of my SUV’s that is not driven for weeks at a time.

The Schumacher unit keeps a perfect charge and does not overheat or dry out the battery. The clock, radio, and GPS settings are all preserved and the charger does not seem to draw much power when the battery is charged. I am very satisfied with the operation of the unit.

The installation was a breeze with the included hardware and the instructions were clear and easy.

I do have two small complaints, however:
(1) The battery lugs were way too big for my vehicle and all other cars that I checked.
(2) The AC plug is too short to run anywhere. I wanted the plug to reach to just outside the vehicle’s grill, so that the unit could be plugged in without opening the hood. I had to install an extra extension cord for that purpose.

Much Better Looking Than Expected!,

There was a slight problem with my first horn, but Biker Hiway replaced it within 3 days with no questions asked.

Installation: I put this on my VN900 Custom. I found a brace piece welded at the top left of the frame on the left side that was triangular in shape and easy to drill through without weakening anything structurally. By placing this on the LEFT side, the horn faces back as recommended in the instructions. One hole, longer bolt, one wrench. I took off the old horn and used that bolt to mount the relay. Crimped on connectors for two short leads going to the horn and added a 14ga wire from the battery, through a 20-amp fuse, to the relay.

It looks totally professional and is out of the way, with the horn flares and the input port facing backward so they’re less likely to suck up water in the rain. It’s completely out of the way of my legs and knees.

Performance: Outstanding. Nuff said. Loud, shrill, and commanding.

Biker Hiway: Seldom do you find a vendor like this one. I was certain I’d have to pay shipping to return the item and then shipping to get the new part delivered. This has happened with items for me before. Even a huge TV one time, and that did not amuse! Horrible to have to pay double or triple shipping just because you were sent something defective! NOT AT BIKER HIWAY! A simple email to the customer service people and the new unit was on its way the same day.

Four stars for the horn, simply because the first unit had a short internally.

This horn is VERY LOUD, I had to build a custom bracket to attach to original horn mount to tuck it back out of the way a little, but wasn’t a big deal. Horn comes with 30 amp relay needed for install. Need to buy wire, fuse holder and some crimp wire connectors, no problem. Nice looking horn.

I added this horn to my new touring motorcycle in addition to the factory horn. The manufacturer advertises 139 dB for this product, but if you go to the manufacturer’s site and search the fine print, it was measured at 4 inches. Normally, audio products are measured at a distance of 1 meter, not 4 inches.

If you measure this horn at the canonical 1 meter, it is @ 120 dB.

10dB difference is perceived by the human ear as being 2X as loud. 20dB difference would be perceived by the human ear as being 4X as loud. The difference between 139dB and 120dB would be perceived @ 4X as loud, but in this case, it is @ 4X quieter than what was advertised using standard measuring techniques.

My factory horn is a lower frequency than the 2 higher frequencies in this horn, so the combination made a 3 tone horn. The combination of the factory and aftermarket horn makes a notable difference from the stock, but not what I figured I would get by the 139 dB claims.
