Apple iPod classic 120 GB (7th Generation) OLD MODEL Reviews.

The updated iPod Classic was probably the least exciting of the new iPods announced in the September 2008 update, but that does not mean it should be dismissed.

I own the 160 GB iPod Classic that has now been discontinued, but there are few differences (perhaps the biggest being the much slimmer shape of this 120 model), and I did get to check this updated 120 GB version out at the store, when picking up the new nano and touch.

Firstly, the 120 GB version is again smaller than the largest capacity available last year, but it is a single platter hard drive, which allows it to maintain the slim shape of the 80 GB version from last year. More storage, a hundred dollars less, and just as small. That is progress despite calls from others that the classic isn’t exciting. It still serves its purpose as the original iPod idea. Big capacity in a simple to use device.

Next, the software has been slightly updated on the iPod Classic. It now includes Genius, like iTunes and the other new iPods. This allows you, when on a song you enjoy, to select the genius feature. The iPod will then compile a list of songs (playlist), which goes together with the original song you were listening to. This helps you rediscover music in your library, with a playlist to fit your mood at the time. I have been using the genius feature for a few days now, and it is impressive the way it compiles these playlists. I was skeptical, but overall, it does a good job. Furthermore, as another review mentioned, the iPod does seem more responsive with this update from what I saw at the store compared to my original 160 GB iPod Classic. Some speculation has been that the older iPod Classics will receive the software update of this new one, but I’m not holding my breath on that.

Overall, the original iPod concept was so good, and that is why the iPod Classic is still a solid choice for a music and media player. It will hold thousands and thousands of songs (up to 30,000 according to Apple at 128 bitrate). I also backup some important files to my iPod Classic, in disk mode, so that I have that additional extra copy of my most vital files. When you have such a large iPod, you can do that. It shouldn’t be forgotten either that while the display of the iPod Classic isn’t as good as the iPod Touch or iPhone, it is still quite good and you can play music videos, TV shows, and movies purchased on the iTunes Store.

Battery life for this new 120 GB model improved over the 80GB model from last year. Apple now estimates it at 36 hours audio and 6 hours video.

I’d recommend the iPod Classic without hesitation, to those who have more than 8 or 16 GBs of music in their iTunes library and want to carry their entire collection. Furthermore, if you have videos and video podcasts you want to always carry with you, again, you can’t beat the storage. I have the lower capacity flash devices as well, but the big hard drive based iPod Classic continues to play an important role in my iPod Collection.

I am a big tech nerd, and although I am a little disappointed that apple will be paying less attention to the classic ipod I bought one, and I really enjoy It!

I previously had a 30GB Video Ipod and It lasted me about 3 years. Its being repaired for a new battery now, but I figured I would upgrade since my library had grown.

Not much has changed to these new ones, except the interface a little. I love genius and I am stoked that it was worked into the functionality. It remains about the same size as my 5th generation? video and so still fits my old rubber case (which is nice).

Probably the best thing about it is, doing a comparison between my roommates 30GB ipod video and this one, I find that the audio quality on this one has improved quite a bit. I don’t know if its the connectors or maybe a d-a converter, but it definitely sounds better. I am a recording engineer so I might be a little more apt to hear it, but its cool.

Overall I am stoked about my new ipod. Its a great device! I will be sad to see apple move on to more of a multi-tool type device, but that doesn’t sway my review on this one. Enjoy!

In a number of circles, the iPod Classic is now considered the “less sexy” iPod. Largely because of the things it appears to lack vis-a-vis the newest “fully-wired” iPods/iPhones: it doesn’t have a phone function (d’oh!), it doesn’t “do” wide-screen for video and games the way an iPhone/iPod Touch does, and…well, it doesn’t seem as much *fun*, darn it! (Memo to the only-two-colors-available fashionistas: silver and [charcoal] black, being *classic* colors, go with everything. When’s the last time you saw a pink Audi or Merc? Mary Kay doesn’t hand either of those out to its top sales stars, which is just as well.)

Let’s rewind a bit (sorry for the tape-based analogy) to a MacWorld seemingly long, long ago.

At the time, people were clamoring for Apple to include video in their next-generation iPods (they had just announced the iPod Photo, which was the very first iPod I ever owned…sometimes, not being an “early adopter’ can pay off). His Steveness replied, more or less, that people value music a lot more than than they value TV/video stuff, so for the time being, no video iPods. While I happened to agree with Jobs’ sentiments (I rarely watch the box, so there), I also knew how shrewd a businessman he was, and if the Hoi Polloi wanted video in their iPods, by cracky, he’d make ‘em! And while I wouldn’t damn him to Hades for such a pragmatic decision (he’s doing this stuff to make a buck, okay?), the aesthete in me would be put off just a bit. That was then.

NOW: Through a bit of hard work and happenstance, an iPod Classic (120GB) happened to fall into my lap recently (long story). My beloved 60GB iPod Photo wasn’t even half-full, but I welcomed this newest ‘Pod with open arms. The reasons?

- Capacity. Let the deniers who bought their iPhones, Touches, and nanos prattle on; if you’re a serious music lover, you’ve got a ton of music on the home front, and, if you’re Of A Certain Age, probably in more than one format: CD, LP cassette, and, if you’re particularly well-preserved, you might even have a few commercially-produced open-reel tapes lurking about. Paying upwards of $400 or so for the “biggest” iPod Touch might be a bit of a stretch for you…am I right? You might not even give a rat’s tuchus (it’s okay to say that here, right?) about video and gaming capability, but you’ll really care about capacity. Are we grokking here?

Good. Because this iPod, even this late in the game, is aimed toward you and me. Apple, now the 900lb gorilla of the portable digital-media market (how strange that must be to Mssrs Gates & Ballmer) has the market covered: you want a device that’s all-singing, all-dancing? You can get an iPhone, or, short of that, an iPod Touch. If it’s got to be as tiny as possible (I won’t ask why…), there’s the nano, or, if it really has to be much smaller, the lovely 2nd-Gen Shuffle (which my Significant Other managed to lose shortly after I presented one to her as a gift; she’ll inherit my iPod Photo now).

- True Gapless Playback. The iPod Photo had just one glaring flaw: any album by a group that had a thing for track-into-track segues (say, XTC, the Beatles, Pink Floyd…you get the idea) didn’t translate at all with the Photo; you’d get an abrupt track change instead of the smooth, proper transition the band and engineers intended. I know the iPod Generation kicked off the “rip/mix/burn-it-like-you-wanna” thing, but if I want to hear the damn album the way it was released, then I should be able to. In the iPod world, this possibility didn’t materialize until the 5th Gen iPod (video). Now that I have the newest Classic, I really, really appreciate this.

- The Sound. Most talk about getting good sound from an iPod is almost entirely focused on headphones, usually fairly pricey ones. But, to use a high-end audio mantra, you only get out what you put in. Sometime around the introduction of the first iPod Classic, Apple quietly made some serious engineering changes in the output section of the iPod, resulting in both a reduced noise floor and improved detail. One online review stated that the new design appeared to be ever-so-slightly less “warm” sounding than the previous design, but between the lowered noise floor and improved musical detail the new design was a solid net gain. I concur: subjectively, the Classic’s overall sound might sound a tad less “euphonic” than my iPod Photo, but I also notice better transient detail and handling of low, delicate notes with both my semi-isolating, against-the-ear Sennheiser PMX200 headphones and my Sony MDR-EX85LP in-ear ‘phones. Somehow this seems to have at least a slight effect on line output, too: playback through the living-room hi-fi (via a Griffin AirDock, also a screaming bargain at its current price) offers similar, but not quite as obvious improvements over the iPod Photo. This isn’t a case of bad versus good: this is good versus Mighty Good.

- The Classic is, as close as can be, a direct descendant of the original iPod that turned the portable digital music-player market on its ear. The enhancements it has picked up since then have made sense insomuch as they haven’t gotten much in the way of the Prime Directive, if you will: allowing the user to carry and access her/his music collection about easily, and with reasonable fidelity. No, it was never a direct replacement for a killer home ‘fi (which most people don’t possess), but more than ear-pleasing in the environs in which these devices are most-often used. (Yes, as a New Yorker, the subway comes to mind most often…particularly the F, A, C, and #2/3 lines.)

- While I do admit that the iPhone/iPod Touch interface is mad-cool and industry-leading, I still believe the Click Wheel more than holds its own in terms of overall ergonomics; as has been pointed out in a few other reviews here, it’s still the only interface you can manage one-handed, and which allows you to navigate between music tracks without looking at the unit (why isn’t THIS the iPod “Touch?”). Like the 5G iPod, you get video, which for the most part I couldn’t care less about (although I can now view the video portion of my iTunes purchase of The Traveling Wilburys Collection, which is sort of nice). The notion of watching music videos, let alone feature-length movies, on a not-even-three-inch screen, when we’re being assaulted with the idea that a 32″ screen at home is woefully inadequate, ‘specially if it ain’t high-def, is a bit inconsistent.

But, this is about music, music you can take with you.

By this lone standard, the iPod Classic clearly blows everything else Apple offers into the weeds. Anything not made by Apple, IMO, hasn’t even found its way to the starting line. The interface is highly functional and sexy enough, without allowing surface to roll straight over substance.

The happy thing is that Apple offers options to fit just about anyone. If you need a single do-it-all device, and don’t care (at least at the moment) about capacity for all your fave tracks, you’ve got either the iPhone 3G or iPod Touch; if you want your device as tiny and unobtrusive as possible, you’ve got either the Shuffle or the polychromatic nano. And, finally, if, like me, you want, over all else, as much of your music at hand, wherever you are, as your balm, your salve, your relief from waiting-room Hell or airport Purgatory, the Classic is really it. And, for what it’s worth, the current (120GB) Classic wil be able to use the newest Apple earbuds with in-line remote control and microphone (they’ve got a twin-driver ‘phone “coming soon” that promises to be grand-sounding; we’ll see). If you haven’t checked out any ‘Pods since the Photo or before, this is likely the one to finally pop for.

SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player (Blue) Reviews.

BACKGROUND: I was in the market for a small MP3 player with primary usage at the gym. I was looking for a rechargeable unit as my previous player ate AAA batteries about every week or so. I considered three options of which the Sansa Clip was one of them. I eliminated the iPod Shuffle due to its cost and lack of display. The other primary contender was the Creative Zen Stone Plus (I rejected the non-Plus model due it its lack of display). I will reference how the Sansa Clip won out throughout the rest of the review.

SET UP: The Sansa Clip is about as simple as it gets in this area. It requires no additional software installation. My home system runs XP SP2 with Windows Media Player 11. When I plugged the player in to charge, it was detected and recognized automatically. I told windows to “Take No Action” as the default behavior when the device connects. This allows me to maintain complete control over the syncing process. My unit charged in about an hour.

MUSIC TRANSFER: You have the option of using simple drag and drop of MP3 files to the device as you would a USB flash drive. However, using Windows Media Player allows you the more advanced feature of playlists. Since I primarily use my MP3 player at the gym, I created multiple playlists for warm up, workout, and cool down. The workout lists are about 90 minutes while the others about 20 minutes. I really liked that I was able to create multiples of each for variety. Right now I have three of each with about 1.5 Gb still remaining to use as I please. Using Windows Media Player, you can sync albums, songs, or playlists as you would with any other device. The Sansa Clip fully supports all of these options so it is a nice low effort, highly functional set up.

SOUND QUALITY: This is an area where the Sansa Clip is pretty impressive. I previously had the Sansa M230, and I can tell a significant difference in sound quality. I am able to hear a lot more detail in the higher ranges (such as high hat cymbals). I am using the headphones that came with the unit, but I would image that higher quality headphones would sound even better. The player also has a series of preset equalizer settings for different music styles as well as one that you can customize.

DISPLAY: This is a distinguisher between the Clip and the Zen Stone Plus. The display is larger and easier to read. The mix of blue and yellow against the black background is also pleasant.

NAVIGATION: The Clip has a normal four button dial that is common to most small MP3 players. With the crisp, clear display it is easy to move around and select music by artist, album, song, or playlist. The only thing that I have noticed that doesn’t work quite the way I would like is that if you navigate away from the song that is playing there doesn’t seem to be a way to get back to it to see the details of what’s playing. This is pretty minor, though, because I do not regularly navigate away from the song that is playing.

FM RADIO: This is about what you would expect from a unit with no external antenna. Strong signals come in clearly, but it is not going to match what you can pick up on your car stereo. This is a nice to have feature for me so it is plenty adequate.

OPTIONS: As I mentioned previously, my primary usage comes at the gym. I had used the song timer to measure the time between reps while lifting weights on my M230. However, the Clip has a power saving feature that shuts off the display after 15 seconds by default. However, you can change this to 30, 45, 60, or 90 seconds which should cover your needs. After adjusting mine, I wake up the display after completing a set. When the display shuts off, it’s time for the next set.

USE ON THE GO: This is the other area where the Clip separates itself from the Zen Stone Plus. You can clip the player to your clothes or an arm strap (I use the one that came with my M230). The Zen Stone Plus requires purchase of a separate armband accessory for an additional $15.

COST: At base price, the Zen Stone Plus and Sansa Clip are a push. However if you factor in another $15 for an armband you have a clear winner given the other advantages.

CONCLUSION: The Sansa Clip is now the leader in 2 Gb small MP3 players. Give it a spin and you won’t be disappointed.

When looking into buying an mp3 player I had several things I wanted, but wasn’t certain–at first–that I could find: Great sound…FM tuner…voice recording…screen…size…Napster compatibility and most importantly, cost. We purchased several Creative Zen Stone shuffle-type players for our daughters for Christmas convinced that they were compatible with Napster, which they are not…so we were a bit disappointed. Oh, they are fine players, but not being able to download from our Napster account was a giant negative. The girls chose to keep their Zen Stone’s and download off our current cd collection.

So…the wife and I went on a search for mp3 players for us. We knew what we didn’t want, but weren’t sure we could get everything we wanted at a decent price. Out of the blue, we accidentally discovered the Sansa Clip and after a brief once-over, my wife and I decided this was what we’ve been looking for.

First, these little gem’s are small. Considering all it does, it is amazingly small. Sure, it’s thicker than the ipod shuffle, but the shuffle lacks quite a few of the features of the Sansa Clip–and it’s STILL cheaper by not a little, either. The screen is great. MUCH better in person than I thought it would be. If you absolutely INSIST on a color screen that can also show photos and video, look elsewhere, but if you want a screen that displays quite a bit of info and is VERY easy to work with, the Sans Clip is fantastic.

At first we were afraid after opening the box that it wasn’t Napster compatible, which would’ve been a HUGE letdown…but after some ‘net surfing and investigating, we discovered this: according to Napster, the Sansa Clip is NOT on their official list of compatible mp3 players…yet. According to SanDisk, yes it IS compatible, it just hasn’t been certified just yet. What WE discovered is that yes, it IS compatible and works just perfect with synching music to our players. Problem solved. If you have one yourself and you wonder the same thing, take it from me, it IS compatible — but if it doesn’t work, try it using a different computer before you write it off.

Sound quality is also a BIG deal for me. I work in radio and I have become almost annoyingly accustomed to digital quality audio, and while some people may not be bothered with this, I find it bothersome when I hear a song that is so obviously recorded from more than 10 years ago and you can hear that analog *hiss* in the background on almost all songs not digitally re-mastered. Some people either don’t care or can’t hear it, but for some reason I do…and with ths Sansa Clip, the quality is exceptional. One of — if not the best I have tested.

Features that come with the Clip include the shuffle category, which I think could use some tweaking because when I put it in this mode, I hear specific songs repeat sometimes after only 3 songs have played…I want my shuffle to play all the songs randomly–but never repeat anything unless and until it has played ALL the songs stored in memory. Call me picky, but that is my only real gripe with this model.

I like how you can choose music based on genre (country, pop, rock etc) and you can rate all songs using from 1 to 5 stars…VERY convenient–after you finally have all the songs rated. It does take time to set it up, but worth it.

The voice recording is a cool feature in case you are stuck somewhere and need to write something down or save a thought you just had and you can’t write it right away. VERY nice addition.

Size. For MY money, this little player is tiny. I am constantly amazed I can carry with me 500 mp3 songs in such a small package. Sure you can buy more memory mp3 players, but honestly, who listens to 5,000 songs that regularly that you have to add them to your playlist? My wife loads anything and everything, whether she just likes it a little or a lot…for me, I like to download ONLY the songs I REALLY like. I don’t want to have to skip ANY song in my library–but if that isn’t a problem for you, passing one song for the next is as easy as pressing the right side of the wheel on front. Voila. Easy.

The included earbuds are fine and provide decent audio quality, but never quite fit my ears all that comfortably. This is not a problem for my wife, so I guess each person must weigh this factor individually because the earbuds are NOT one size fits all, more like one size fits most. I have a pair of Phillips noise cancelling earbuds which work WONDERFUL and more than fulfills my audio eccentricities.

Finally, co$t. For the money, I think it is VERY hard to beat the features in the Sansa Clip and quality. I have yet to see a comparable name-brand mp3 player for the price that fulfills all my needs (and wants). While one may be out there, I just haven’t found it personally. I am VERY happy and quite thrilled I have this little device around to help me out when I work out at the gym, go walking or just sitting around and need my tunes with me. If you are looking to make an investment in a small player with multiple features at low cost, you would be hard pressed to do better than the Sansa Clip.

The Sandisk Sansa Clip 2GB is a great value MP3 player. It has twice the capacity as the iPod Shuffle for about $50-60. It also has a screen, FM Tuner, voice recording and more. You can get the 1GB version for $35.

Pros -
+ good sound
+ nice capacity for a decent price
+ light-weight
+ FM tuner (20 Presets)
+ voice recording
+ nice design with more color options
+ Nice format compatibility (MP3, DRM WMA, WMA, Audible)
+ USB 1.1 and 2.0 connectivity
+ Can be used as a USB drive / mass storage
+ Can sync music with drag & drop or via software
+ 15 hours battery life is better than Creative Clip Plus
+ Integrated Clip means no add-on case / lanyard purchase needed!

Cons
- larger body than the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod shuffles

The new Sandisk Sansa Clip has the advantages of the iPod shuffle with some of the compatibility, feature, and price benefits of other MP3 players. Unlike the Sansa Express, which you can plug in directly into your USB port, the clip uses a standard USB B cable.

The Clip is definitely a little bigger than the iPod shuffle, but not by much. It has a great feel and a nicer clip. It is also priced VERY well for the holidays. It fills the market for a starter MP3, workout unit, or gift.

The rechargable battery seems better than the Creative Zen Stone Plus and gives you a respectable 15 hours. The sound is nice. The earbuds are passable for beginners but most people will replace them. As for durability, only time will tell; so far it’s holding up nicely.

I definitely recommend the larger 2GB option. For those needing more space, you will have to explore the Creative Zen, Sandisk Sansa, Sansa View or new iPod Nano. All of those units have higher price tags.
SanDisk Sansa View 8 GB MP3 Player
SanDisk Sansa View 16 GB MP3 Player
Creative Zen 4 GB (Black)
Creative Zen 8 GB (Black)
Creative Zen 16 GB (Black)
Sandisk SDMX4-4096 Sansa e260 4 GB MP3 Player with SD Expansion Slot
SanDisk SDMX4-8192 Sansa e280 8 GB MP3 Player (Black)
Apple 4 GB iPod nano AAC/MP3 Player Silver (3rd Generation)
Apple 8 GB iPod nano AAC/MP3 Player Black (3rd Generation)

Overall, an awesome starter unit that deserves a try. Enjoy!!!

The world’s smallest digital music player, the 1GB iPod shuffle lets you wear up to 240 songs on your sleeve. Or your lapel. Or your belt. Clip on iPod shuffle and wear it as a badge of musical devotion. You know what they say about good things and small packages. But when something 1.62 inches long and about half an ounce holds up to 240 songs, “good” and “small” don’t quite cut it. Especially when you can listen to your music for up to 12 continuous hours. In fact, iPod shuffle just may be the biggest thing in small.Clip it to your coin pocket. Clip it to your bag. No matter where you clip your skip-free iPod shuffle, you’ll have instant access to music. And iPod shuffle’s anodized aluminum enclosure goes with absolutely everything. Put it on, turn it up, and turn some heads.Got more than 240 songs in your iTunes library? No problem. Let iTunes autofill your iPod shuffle and get a new musical experience every time. Pop follows jazz. Rock follows rap. iPod shuffle loves to improvise. Take the Shuffle switch, for instance. Even if you’ve synchronized a particular playlist, you can shuffle songs with a flick.

Apple iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) OLD MODEL Reviews.

Un-frecken believable!!! $200 for a shuffle is robbery. You can pick up the 2GB model for $60 at BestBuy. Who are these people???

The iPod shuffle is a great iPod in that it’s built for simplicity while exercising or working outside. It’s lightweight and clips on very easily. No, it doesn’t play video, have a touch screen, etc., but that’s not what it’s made for. It’s made for listening on the go. So yes, it’s the old version, but it’s a great one, and we love the one we have and highly recommend it.

This is my second ipod shuffle and I absolutely love it. (My first shuffle lasted almost over two years of consistent use before the battery died.) The size is so perfect for everyday use. You can attach it to you shirt and go for a walk–it’s very convenient and portable. I also like to take it with me when I travel–it’s easy to pack and take anywhere. And, there is so much storage space I’m not even close to filling it up with all of the songs I like. For the value of the money, the size, and portability, you can’t go wrong with the ipod shuffle. It makes a wonderful gift too. Even if someone already owns an mp3 player, I would purchase this one for the ease of use and size.

Apple iPod touch (2nd Generation) OLD MODEL Reviews.

One year ago I purchased the 16GB original iPod Touch. At that time, I found that even though it had some flaws, the over-all package made it one of the best iPods available. Now, one year later, Apple has released the next generation Touch. I’ve now had it for a few days, and here’s what I found: the second gen iPod Touch is a marked improvement over the the first gen, and comes even closer to perfection. Keeping this in mind, this review will show one big, and a number of smaller shortcomings. It may also be difficult to justify upgrading from the 1st to 2nd gen unless you simply must have one of the few hardware improvements, and can live with the fact that you may have to re-purchase some of your accessories.

Size and Dimensions
The iPod Touch now sports a more rounded design on the back, making it look slightly thinner and more like the iPhone than the original did (it is not really thinner than it’s predecessor, just looks that way). Unfortunately, the back plate is still made from stainless steel, and this plate attacts fingerprints and scratches almost magically. After one year of near-constant use the backplate of my first gen Touch looks a bit like a wild etch-a-sketch (I carry the Touch in my pocket). Interestingly, the glass on the front appears (after one year of heavy use) to be absolutely scratch-resistant. It’s the backside (that also carries the custom engraving) that quickly becomes blemished. I would have preferred a brushed metal/aluminium backplate. I had to look it up, but the new Touch is slightly lighter (a few grams) – but it looks thinner (thanks to the tapered edge design). The rounded edges make it fit my palm slightly better, making it feel just right (to be honest, the original Touch was already very, very good in this respect). Other than that the outside dimensions exactly match that of the original Touch. The most visible change from the front is that the steel from the backplate now frames the glass much like it did on the original iPhone.

Touch Screen and Controls
The screen is simply gorgeous. It’s bright, crisp, has great contrast, and can adapt it’s brightness to the ambient light. In direct sunlight, much like it’s predecessor it becomes difficult to read correctly. In shade it’s perfectly readable — a feat considering how bright a display has to be to achieve that. Color temperature of the display has shifted slightly downwards (or, to sound less pompuous: the display’s colors have shifted slightly from a blueish to a golden tinge, something you wouldn’t notice unless you have the two devices side by side).

The touch screen is very responsive, and as I stated before, absolutely scratch-resistant. Surviving a full year in my pocket along with metallic objects such as my keys is a testament to it’s durability (looking at the stainles steel backside is a constant reminder just how badly it could have been scratched). As with the original Touch, the same problems occur when you try to control the device ‘blind’ (i.e. while it is in your pocket): without looking at it, you simply can’t. Fortunately, Apple has addressed the most important drawback with this design: a hardware volume control. The screen’s resolution remains at 480×320, which is very good (certainly better than my iPod Classic’s). Interestingly, I’ve found out that ripping videos to this resolution does not necessarily yield noticeably better results than for the iPod classic’s (320×240) screen, so I now rip to that resolution, conserving some memory.

iPod / iTunes
After one year of owning the original Touch I have to remind myself that this device originally is an iPod — or rather a digital music player. As it turns out, although I also use it for music playing, this function has more and more been relegated to a background task — a task, nontheless, that it handles really well. The coverflow, browsing and display functionality has evolved nicely from the original (1.0 and 2.0) versions, and are still the best in the market. The interface improvements support nice touches such as displaying a song’s lyrics on single tap, bringing up the volume/cue controls on double-tap of the home button, an alphabetic slide rule when browsing titles, etc. Still missing is a search function, though. And, especially in light of the gorgeous display capabilities and the recent addition of a new visualitzer (in additional to the existing ones in iTunes), I would have loved to see a visualizer on the Touch as well. The biggest (and in my oppinion delibarate (as in spiteful)) omission is this: you still can’t enable ‘hard drive mode’, i.e. use the Touch as a mass storage device. The biggest boon is improved battery life.

Video is crisp (still no contrast control, though), and audio playback is just as you expect (again: I’m no audiophile. I’m absolutely happy with most player’s audio capabilities). Again I’m not using the Apple-provided white and quite sub-par headphones. I’m using separately purchased ones. New for the second gen is a built-in speaker. Audio quality here is not actually terrible, but close. The sound is tinny, weak, and just somehow comes out of the iPod (mono, of course). I believe that the addition of the speaker has a specific reason different from HiFi: it makes playing games on the Touch without headphones so much more enjoyable. But for listening to music I would prefer headphones or active speakers. To be honest, I prefer not listening to music from that speaker.

iTunes integration is top-notch as before. Some sort of bug-fix now has made data backup much faster, and both iTunes and the Touch now sport a new kind of smart playlist that is called ‘Genius’. Initially, I wasn’t impressed by this feature. Although iTunes 8 has had this feature I regarded it primarily as a well executed new way to sell song and hence didn’t use it. On my iPod, however (which only carries a subset of my library due to memory contraints), this feature literally rocks. On my first day alone it had me re-discover five songs I never knew I had (much less liked).

On the downside, the Touch still does not support playlist groups, which is a constant annoyance to me. I’m also disappointed to see that the Touch still can’t synch wirelessly, nor can it be used to access shared playlists (other than downloading them, of course). An application in the App store offers this functionality, albeit only for non-DRM’d titles, proving the point that this is possible.

Images (from iPhoto) can also be synched to the Touch, and nothing is more fun than showing off your iPod’s capabilities using a nice picture and ‘pinch’ and ‘swipe’. Interestingly (or rather: unfortunately), iTunes appears to down-sample large images to a smaller resolution, probably to conserve memory. This may make sense, but I would like to be able to have more control over this feature (i.e. decide myself what the image’s resolution on the iPod should be).

Accessories – the Big Bad Ugly
Unfortunately, Apple has changed the pin-out (*again*) for the iPod connector. As a result, some ‘made for iPod’ accessories either don’t work, or don’t work fully any more. For example, my Altec Lansing active speakers can’t charge the Touch any more (it was able to charge the 1st gen Touch). This is truly, truly annoying as you don’t know if your iPod works with your ‘made for iPod’ devices any longer, and makes purchasing new accessories a game of chance. My car has a (hideously expensive) iPod integration that luckily still works (including re-charging). Still, the iPod connector compatibility (or lack thereof) is becoming a big mess. Just imagine you want to buy an accessory for your kid or friend, and too late find out that it does not work with it.

WiFi / Internet
A year ago I purchased an iPod, and got a fully integrated web accesory kit. As it turned out, the addition of WiFi and full internet access is a killer feature to me. The web browser (a mobile version of Safari) is very capable. Much has been said about the fact that Mobile Safari does not support Flash. This is annoying if you visit sites that use it. The pinch/slide gesture-based interface works so well that I regularely use the Touch for normal web surfing. The general experience has increased over the past few month, no doubt in no small amounts due to the fact that many sites have beed re-designed with the iPhone in mind. Since the Touch’s browser is exactly the same, it inherits the benefit. WiFi speed is good (although it still uses the 802.11b/g, not the n variant) – and mostly depends on the hotspot you are connected to. It remembers the hotspots it has connected to (much like a laptop would), and can also connect using WPA. There are other Web enabled applications that come with the iPod (Maps, which can pinpoint your location by the position of hotspots close to you), Stocks, YouTube, and Weather, which are nice, but remarkable. WiFi reception range is average, but definitely below that of some PC laptops.

Then, the Touch also comes with Mail, Calendar and Adressboock, and these do become killer fieatures, especially when coupled with an Exchange server or (as Apple would prefer) MobileMe. Mail supports ‘push’ technology, meaning that (almost) as soon an there is an incoming mail (and your Touch is connected to a hotspot), you are notified by a little discreep ‘bleep’. Reading emails, including mails with rich content works very well. Composing any but the shortes emails, on the other hand, is bothersome, verging on annoying due to the small virtual keyboard). Still, simply being able to do this makes all the difference. Live Calender updates have saved my bacon a few times already, as you do not have to remember to actively synch your iPod after you have made a change to the calender.

The iPod Touch debuted only one year ago, and this is the first update. I was excited to pick up the new iPod Touch at the Apple Store because I had never owned a first generation, though I do own iPhones.

I want to concentrate primarily on the new features:

First, physical volume buttons are now placed on the side of the iPod Touch as they are on the iPhone. This is very convenient. It allows you to adjust the volume of your music, without having to pull the entire device out of your pocket and activate the screen. A time saver.

Second, many people requested a built-in speaker for the iPod Touch like is available on the iPhone. Apple listened. However, there is one important point to make on this! The iPod Touch is incredibly small, and Apple is forced to put an incredibly small speaker. The speaker in the iPod Touch sounds worst than the speaker in the iPhone. I have compared it side by side, and it’s fairly significant, and the iPhone speaker isn’t that great to begin with. However, in a quiet room, the speaker is still useful for previewing a song you might want to buy, or for playing games. However, still, if you want great sound, you need to connect your headphones.

Genius – This new feature is really surprisingly good. When you’re listening to a song you enjoy, select the genius option. It will create a playlist for you, with songs that go together nicely with the one you started with. It helps you rediscover great music from your collection with a playlist suited to the mood you’re in. I didn’t think it would do a good job compiling this list, but it has been quite impressive.

Applications – It’s great to have the ability to buy (or get some free) applications right on the iPod Touch. Furthermore, with the software update this new iPod Touch comes with, the Application installation process is so much smoother than it had been even on my iPhone. It now works how you want it to, seamlessly. I like having a weather application that includes doppler radar images, and that is free. I also have several games on it. There is a great variety of applications available from hundreds of third-parties right on the iPod itself, so you are certain to find something that interests you. I really like the new release of Spore, for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Apple is really pushing the games and quietly suggest they are challenging Nintendo and Sony. They are innovative and interesting games, but I think they have a ways to go, to challenge those game makers.

Nike + is now built in too, so if you have the shoes and the puck, the iPod Touch is ready to receive the data from it. Battery life is improved to 36 hours audio and 6 hours video according to Apple. I find the audio number fairly accurate if you don’t light up the display much, but the video number is a slight bit harder to achieve.

Of course, the new ipod Touch does look and feel even better than the first generation, from my small experiences with the previous one. I also think it feels cooler than my iPhones, but obviously your interpretation may very. I like the metal back on the iPod Touch. It looks classy, though it is prone to scratches.

One of my favorite features continues to be, when in my home on Wi-Fi, to reach down for the Touch, use Safari web browser and look something up. It’s great.

Overall, it was a solid update for the iPod Touch. I wish the speaker could be better on it, but I believe that is due to the physical restrictions of the small device. I could have knocked it to four stars for that, but I think most people realize a built in speaker isn’t the way you want to listen to most audio on an iPod to begin with. I’m impressed by the second generation iPod Touch, and I think with the third party applications getting better and becoming more popular, more people will consider the Touch.

Apple iPod nano (5th Generation) NEWEST MODEL Reviews.

I’m a big apple fan and I already have a ipod touch and I was always wanted a nano. I just receive it today and this thing is great. The radio stations sounds really good with no static. the video camera is pretty neat too. Overall, I recommend this product…now my girlfriend wants one.

ove this product. Easy to use. Very compact and so many new usable features. apple did it again

Arrived in less than 24 hours after I placed order from Amazon. Ipod is an excellent product. I bought imac because I was so impressed with an older version of ipod. The new is even better. Apple products are just excellent. Go buy it, Amazon has the best price….take my word for it….I have looked here online and in brick and mortar stores and Amazon’s price just can’t be beat!!

Sony Walkman Video MP3 Player Reviews.

Being 67 years old and wanting something simple to use I used previous reviews to settle on the Sony 4GB Walkman MP3 Player.
I couldn’t be more satisfied. It comes with a cd that allows dowloading an excellent tutorial along with Windows Media Player 11. Instructions are clear and concise. I had read in one review that you couldn’t delete songs. This was untrue as its simple, but does require being hooked to your computer.

If I can use this anyone can and they will be very satisfied with the quality, ease of use and sound quality.
I bought another Sony for my wife !!

The first word that came out of my mouth when I listened to a track on this MP3 / Video player was WOW! The sound quality that this tiny little device generates is just amazing. When it comes to MP3 players, I’m VERY picky. I look for a device that gives me rich, crystal clear, high quality sound… with BASS! And this Walkman delivers it. That’s not to say that other brands don’t deliver high-quality crystal clear sound, but at the same time, not all brands deliver it with outstanding bass and balance. At least, not for this price range.

The equalizer on this Sony Walkman is just perfect, as far as I’m concerned. When you crank up the bass level, you get exactly that – thick, solid bass, without distorting the earphones or affecting the treble. You can either select the presents that are pre-loaded in this device, or customize the frequency levels until you reach your desired sound.

At 4GB, this Walkman can hold approximately 900 songs if they are at 128 kbps in MP3 format. But personally, I would highly recommend you rip your MP3s from your CDs to 192 kbps, which would pretty much give you CD quality. The downfall is that you won’t be able to load 900 songs. Since 192 kbps files are a little larger than 128 kbps, you’ll be looking at something like 600 songs or so (assuming they are the standard 3 to 4 minute songs), which is still a lot. As for the video player, I was quite impressed with both the picture and, of course, sound quality. The videos don’t freeze up or skip or anything like that, they play just as smoothly as what you see on your television screen at home.

Importing audio, video, and images onto this device is pretty easy. Simply connect one end of the USB cable (which comes included) to your Sony Walkman, and the other end of the cable to your computer. Then, on your computer, go to Start, My Computer, look for the “Sony Walkman” drive, double click on it and then drag / drop your files in the appropriate folders. The other option is to use Windows Media Player 11 (which you can download for free on the Internet) to synchronize your files to your Sony Walkman. This is probably the better option if you want everything neatly organized. It may take a little bit of practice for some, but it’s fairly easy to do once you get the hang of it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This review is written specifically for the NWZ-A815 model, not the NWZ-E436F series (BIG DIFFERENCE!). Sony screwed up royally with the MWZ-E436F series as the sound quality is nowhere near as good. Heck, I had a SanDisk Sansa that actually sounded better than the MWZ-E436F series. The problem is that the MWZ-E436F walkmans come with cheap, very standard earphones and have very limited sound enhancement options. I know this from personal experience as I purchased an E436 series thinking it’s the same as the A815 series. I was VERY disappointed. Since the NWZ-A815 looks like it’s discontinued, I would recommend you invest in the Sony NWZ-A726 instead to get that superior sound quality.

Summary for the NWZ-A815 Sony Walkman:

Pros:
Amazing sound quality
Excellent Equalizer
Ridiculously long lasting battery
Ultra slim design (less than half an inch thick)
Has FM Radio
Great bass!

Cons:
Memory not expandable
No voice recorder

This is an excellent product. I highly recommend it.

All I can say is wow. I bought this Sony as a replacement for a substandard mp3 player that I got for christmas. I made the right choice. When I got the player I looked it over and the over all design of the player looks 200% better in person than in picture. It is shiny and sleek. It is however a fingerprint magnate but that’s an easy fix with a PSP cleaning cloth. I found the player so easy to operate right out of the box. I did not need to install any software since I was already running the required Windows Media Player revision. As the description states, drag and drop is a breeze. I had no problems Syncing the player using Windows Media Player either. Album art worked and looked great on the player. The menus were almost too easy to navigate with not even one glance at the included instructions. The LCD screen was bright, vibrant and full of color. The demo videos and pictures were so crisp and clean on the screen. The size of the screen was just right; not to big not to small. Now the sound of the player blew me away. Clean clean clean sound with superb bass response without distorting the highs. The built in equalizer is a nice touch to tailor the sound to your preference. The supplied headphones are OK but nothing to write home about. I would suggest getting some good quality headphones. The date and time function is a nice addition to a well rounded MP3 player. I am 100% satisfied with this player and when I decide to upgrade to a bigger memory size I will again buy a Sony MP3 player. I have heard and used many other MP3 players that cost hundreds of dollars and they pale in comparison to this diamond in the rough. Do not hesitate to pick one up you will not be disappointed.

Sansa Clip 1GB MP3 Player

SanDisk Sansa Clip 1 GB MP3 Player (Black) Reviews.

This thing is amazingly small and light. The display is not much, but it will hold 3 lines and is well lit and easy to read. The menu system is good and lets you scroll through songs by title, artist and album. It uses a standard mini-USB for data transfer and charging. It requires no software or drivers as it uses Windows Media Player to sync songs.

This player has a few things greatly improved over their older ones (like the Sansa e260 I own). It has about the best sound quality out of any MP3 player I have seen. It also has a nice seemless quick fade from one song to the next. I use my MP3 players for listeming to audio books in MP3 format. Some of these are 20+ hours long. My old player took forever to fastforward through, about a 20:1 fast forward, so yes, fast forwarding 10 hours would take about 30 minutes. Now this one has a progressively accelerated fast forward that can run through hours of MP3s in 10 seconds. Also when you turn off the MP3 player it will start back at the exact spot you left off and if it was playing when you turned it off then it will start playing automatically when you turn it back on. It also start up in only a few seconds.

The only issues I see is lack of colors on the 1GB version and maybe a few more colors overall would be nice. The only bug I found is that it does not change the hours on the time elapsed counter and leaves it at 0, but the progression bar is still right.

I was so impressed with the 2GB pink one that I got for my girlfriend that I got a 2GB black one for myself… yes to replace my more expensive 4GB Sansa e260. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

I have the 2gb version of the Clip. I own other mp3 players but this is by far the best. Few players have the features of the Clip for such a reasonable price.

Pros: It’s small- the size of a matchbox- and easily and firmly clips to shirt or pants. The controls are very easy to use and the screen is easy to see. The sound quality is very good when used with better headphones than those that came with it. You can play and record from FM radio. And, most importantly for me, it works with Audible downloads.
It also looks good. I have the red one and many people have asked about it and where to buy one.
Cons: The sound quality of the voice recorder could use improvement. And, as someone mentioned, there’s a glitch in the counter that impacts files that are over an hour in length other than Audible files. Supposedly Sandisk is working on this and there will be a firmware adjustment at some point.

For anyone who wants a player with storage of 2gb or less, the Clip is the best available.

SanDisk Sansa Clip 4 GB MP3 Player (Silver) Reviews.

I was leaving my bulky 80 gig video iPod at home all the time because it was just too large to comfortably stick in my pocket. I wanted something small that I could use for both music and audio books (I use Audible.com).

It has achieved that and a LOT more. I never even use my iPod at home anymore! I’m actually thinking of returning it (Costco gives cash back forever) and buying four or five of these to give away as gifts!

I initially bought a shuffle and returned it the same day because it had no way of bookmarking in my audio books– a chapter is often more than an hour.

Next I bought the smallest Sony Walkman mp3 player… it was very sexy and sleek, and about twice the size of the Sansa clip… but I couldn’t load my Audible.com files onto it, so that was returned the next day.

After what seemed like a full week spent in BestBuy I finally settled on the Sansa 4GB Clip and could not be happier.
It’s ridiculously small, AND (unlike the iPod shuffle) it has a display. I don’t know about you all, but bookmarks aside, not being able to choose a song now and then, or confirm who is performing one when I am unsure, that would drive me crazy!

It is PERFECT for my Audible content. It actually asks when you first hook it up to the PC if you want to sync with Audible Manager. You can also simply go to the Audible Manager and “add device” and follow the steps to activate the Sansa. That way you can just add the specific books you want and not attempt to sync your entire library if you have a lot. I’ve been a member of Audible.com for nearly ten years and getting two books a month you can imagine the size of my library by now.

I loaded five large unabridged books (average ten hours each) and then nearly 1000 songs and I still have plenty of space left to add more as the spirit hits. Transferring files to the Sansa is VERY smooth and fast. Best of all, it resumes where you left off in a book when you turn it off.

There are other nifty “extra” features, as well! The FM radio is pretty special, and I get excellent reception both in San Francisco and out in the sticks around Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. Even near the airport! Pretty impressive for such a tiny thing, huh?

It has a voice recorder that I have not really tested out properly, but i know it works, just from speaking into it. I will try to record a lecture or some other more demanding application before giving the recorder feature the same accolades I have bestowed upon the rest of the amazing little player.

A lot of people have posted excellent, detailed reviews, and I agree with almost all they have said, so I’ll try not to repeat it all.

I will just say that I LOVE THIS LITTLE DEVICE!

It’s tiny. Yes, it is almost twice the size of the ipod shuffle, but seriously, still small enough to put in the “key pocket” of Levi’s 501s (you know, the tiny useless pocket inside the right hip pocket).

It has good sound, easily on par with my video ipod. If you replace the earphones with something better it has the potential of VERY good sound.

So, how does it compare to the iPod shuffle? For only $20 more this has:
~ four times the capacity
~ a visual display
~ a voice recorder
~ an FM receiver
~ drag and drop functionality in both PC or Mac format (no iTunes or other software needed)
~ standard USB cable, so easily replaced.
~ can be rapid charged using the same AC (wall) or 12v (car) adapters that came with my Motorola RAZR phone!
~ can be used as a regular portable drive (like a thumb drive) for any data
~ seamless Audible.com audio books loading and listening
~ clip on the back is removable, if you don’t want to use it, making it even smaller

One poster complained that it was “Difficult to tell when it is fully charged – I charged it for 5 hours and didn’t see any indication that it was fully charged yet”

I found the same thing happening, the first time I charged it right out of the box it took several hours using the USB cable. Later, much by accident I stumbled upon this: when it is plugged in to your computer (I use a PC, not sure if this will work on a MAC), right-click on the Sansa drive icon and choose PROPERTIES, it will tell you the % of the battery charge.

I also discovered the car and wall chargers from my Motorola RAZR phone work for it, and MUCH faster than the USB cable. When charging I also found that when I unplugged it from the cable I had to power the Sansa off and back on to see the battery indicator register the “full” status.

Hope that helps.

I’m a big fan of the Sansa Clip. I have a few of them, some I have my workout music on and one I use to take notes. At CES in January 2008, Sandisk has introduced this new 4GB version in a limited addition silver color. The Sansa Clip was a great value in 2GB; at 4GB it ROCKS! It has four times the capacity as the iPod Shuffle for about the same price. It also has a screen, FM Tuner, voice recording and more. You can get the 1GB version for $35 Sansa Clip 1 GB MP3 Player or the 2GB for about $60 SanDisk SDMX11R-2048K-A70 Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player (Black). But by coming out with the first 4GB clip MP3, Sandisk has raised the bar. Now with MacWeek next week, can a bigger iPod shuffle be far behind? We’ll see.

Pros -
+ good sound
+ nice capacity for a decent price
+ light-weight
+ FM tuner with 40 presets!!!
+ voice recording
+ nice design and color options
+ Nice format compatibility (MP3, DRM WMA, WMA, Audible)
+ USB 1.1 and 2.0 connectivity
+ Can be used as a USB drive / mass storage
+ Can sync music with drag & drop or via software
+ 15 hours battery life is better than Creative Zen Stone Plus or iPod Shuffle

It is also priced right. It fills the market for a starter MP3, workout unit, or gift.

The rechargable battery seems better than the Creative Zen Stone Plus and gives you a respectable 15 hours. The sound is nice. The earbuds are passable for beginners but most people will replace them. As for durability, only time will tell; so far my units are holding up nicely.

I definitely recommend the larger sizes, whether 2GB or 4GB. For those needing more space, you will have to explore the CreativeZen, Sandisk Sansa, Sansa View or new iPod Nano. All of those units have higher price tags.
SanDisk Sansa View 8 GB MP3 Player
SanDisk Sansa View 16 GB MP3 Player
Creative Zen 8 GB (Black)
Creative Zen 16 GB (Black)
SanDisk SDMX4-8192 Sansa e280 8 GB MP3 Player (Black)
Apple 8 GB iPod nano AAC/MP3 Player Black (3rd Generation)

Overall, an awesome starter unit that deserves a try. Enjoy!!!

The Sandisk Sansa Clip accomplishes all that I wanted in an MP3 player which I intended to use at work, to use while riding on the subway and to use while working out at the gym.

Pros:
- Small, compact, light-weight, and better looking than pictured (as is the case with the 1MB, 2MB and 4MB versions). The 4MB has a very cool, beautiful mirrored finish. But I would recommend you buy a silicone case or something to protect this finish and the player itself.
- Crisp, bright display but as mention in other reviews, because of the mirrored finish it can be a bit hard to see in the sunlight
- The clip in the back, hence the name, which makes it easy to attach the player onto your pockets, an armband, or anywhere you want to clip this unit.
- Awesome sound coming out of this little player. The better the headphones you attach the better the sound. But even with the included headphones, very nice sound.
- Better value than the 4MB iPod nano that I was considering purchasing. Way more features and most importantly, it has a radio. Not sure why after all these years Apple never seemed fit to put FM tuners on their players.
- I like that there’s a mute button for the radio as opposed to having to turn the volume all the way down.
- There’s radio broadcast recording.
- A voice recorder
- The unit has an on-the-go playlist. You can compile all your favorite songs at an instant.
- You can drop and drag songs and create playlists right onto the player itself. You don’t have to use another program such as iTunes or Winamp. You will find out once you get the Sandisk Sansa Clip that Sandisk recommends that you use the Rhapsody player program, which you can download and use for free and works best for editing the songs and playlists on the unit.

Just another note about creating playlists on the Sansa Clip. I found through trial and error that it’s best to first create playlists on the unit itself, meaning when the player shows up in My Computer on your desktop, double click on it and add songs to your Music folder, then select and right click on the particular songs you want to make a playlist. Click the option to “Create Playlist”. By default, you will see, “New Playlist” in your Music folder. When you double click on it, you will see all your songs you made into a playlist. You can rename “New Playlist” to whatever you want ex. Playlist 1. You then cut and paste your newly created playlist to the Playlist folder. This method is preferable rather than doing it through programs such as Rhapsody, Windows Media Player, or Winamp. In my experience, when doing it with these programs the playlists either didn’t display correctly or didn’t show up at all. Once your playlists have been created successfully on the unit then you can go into Rhapsody(recommended) or any other MP3 player program and edit or add songs to your playlists.

Cons:
- For some reason certain songs are unable to show up on the list of songs on the playlists I create even though they are on the unit. In other words, say you put, “Elvis – Heartbreak Hotel” onto the player and that’s in “Playlist 1″, the song will be there and you will be able to play it, however when you look through the list of songs in “Playlist 1″, all you see is a blank space where the artist and title should be. Even when I edit the tags and type in the artists and titles of the songs, it still doesn’t display. This can be a problem when you are looking for a particular song via the list. Strangely though, when you are playing the songs within the playlist and you manually scan through the songs, the artist and title that was not being displayed before shows up. I haven’t figured out why this happens. Very weird.
- As far as design and function, I think it would be easier if the Power/Reset button slid down as opposed to up.
- As said by other reviewers, I don’t like that the volume toggle switch is under the headphone port. The headphone plug gets in the way. If the headphone port was at the top of the unit, this wouldn’t be a problem. Because of the location of the headphone port, having headphones plugged in and sticking out increases the width of the player.

Overall, even with the minor gripes I have, the Sandisk Sansa Clip is a solid MP3 player and a great value for the price.

Touch Screen 4GB 2.8-Inch TFT MP4/MP3 Movie Music Personal Media Player Reviews.

This unit has a very large screen and it is very easy to see the video. I have a One Click YouTube downloader. Then I use the free software from CNET to convert it to the Media Players file extention. Then plug the Player into the computer and move the files over. I do not see how it can be any easier. There are lots of music videos on the internet ready to download. Even the expensive media players you have to covert to their format. In fact they can be more difficult to use because of copy protection that you do not run into on these units. If you want to download the music videos for free, then this is the one to get. It is like having a little TV in your pocket. Whatever is on TV can be recorded and played on your media player. Esp with the clear crisp digital image they have now. Just get a video capture card and your ready to go. Get some LG speakers and you can share your music with your friends and even look on the screen to see who is making the music. Plug them in at night and your ready to go the next day. Be sure to back up your files, because you never know when you will have to reformat & reload your computer or player. The small screen players are nice also. But this is a great deal with the large screen and the easy to use touch buttons.

First of all NEVER DOWNLOAD LARGE FILES DIRECTLY ON TO THE MP4, if you do the MP4 will crash(i.e. turn off forever). This happened to me and others. Once it crashes there is nothing you can do to get it working again, you can avoid the problem by transfering only small files at a time. I contacted Pro biz customer support before and after my MP4 crashed they contacted me within an hour after I emailed them and were very helpful. I had some problems getting video on to the MP4 so he sent me to, [...],where there was a simple and easy proceeder to get video on to the device. They also told me that currently the only game available on the MP4 is the one already on it, but they are working on making more. They also told me that the MP4 only takes mini SD cards, it will not take micro or SDHC cards, there is a difference.
So in conclusion I rated the product a 4 even though it crashed on me because of the great customer support and because you can avoid the crashing by being sure to never downloading large files( group of more than ten songs, or more than one video at a time)directly on to the mp4 player.

I bought this player for my 11 year old and have had great luck with it. We found that it was easy to load music, videos and games on from my computer – just a matter of copying files from the computer to the device. It is also easy to use once you get the hang of it. The screen is bright and crisp and it seems to be pretty durable. My daughter loves the internal speaker (no ear buds required) and the touch screen display. The only “wishes” that we have for it are – a place to put the little “pen” on the machine, and that the touch screen were a little more sensitive. Her best friend has an I-pod Nano and was jealous of all the features that this little player has and how well it works compared to the I-pod.

Clip Plus 4 GB MP3 Player (Black) Reviews.

If all you are looking for is a great sounding, small, cheap mp3 player with a display and expandability options, then the clip + is your best choice. This is very similar to the old clip with the following major differences:

- two minor button placement changes (improvement)
- UI is a bit smoother (menus scroll now)
- volume normalizing/gain
- micro-SD slot for up to 16 added gigs (which is huge)
- a little thicker, probably due to SD support
- clip is no longer removable (depending on your preference, this is a good or bad thing-guess you could just rip it off and file it down if you wanted to)

As always, it sounds great and blows away the iPod Shuffle in terms of value. So light and small–great for the gym. If you need your mp3 player to play games, surf the internet or serve double purpose as a grocery list, then this isn’t for you, but if you’re on a budget or just need something that plays music and does so well, this is the one.

I got one of these as a backup player to use for running. Its great – small, lightweight and you can clip it onto a pocket, shirt sleeve or collar and it will hold firmly without falling off. Only had it a week week and its already taken the place of the Cowon D2 I bought a couple of years ago.

If you’re looking for a small form factor, well made and cheap flash player without any frills, you’ll find it in the Clip+.

These days, the only real benefit to buying a bigger player is so that you can play video on the fly and indeed the design of a lot of new MP3 players seems to be moving in the direction of Portable Media and Games. But if you’re after an old-school, no frills MP3 player that sounds great – this is the one for you.

This is easy to use, the interface is simple (crucial if you’re using it for running) and it requires no proprietary software (like iTunes) – just a simple drag and drop, and you have an Micro SD card slot to expand the memory (another $40 or $50 will get you a 16 gb micro-sd). All in all a lot better value for money than the screenless iPod touch.

There’s really no reason not to buy one of these.

The only downer is the battery life – at 15 hours its decent, but the battery is non-removable (though the cost of the player is so little that by the time it wears out you’ll have got your $50 worth), and I’m not sure how the use of the SD card slot will impact that. On my D2 with its rated 52 hours of battery life – playing music or video from the memory card slot seems to reduce the battery life by up to 50%. Something to bear in mind.

I bought this player in order to replace a dead iPod Shuffle 2G. I’ll get right into the pros and the cons.

Pros:

-Great sound from what I’ve heard
-Battery life. It’s rated at 15 hours and this is more than good enough for my needs
-Drag and drop in Windows Explorer! Coming from the Shuffle, this is huge and extremely nice
-Build quality. Doesn’t seem ‘squeaky’ at all so far
-Good UI design. I’m sure it’s no iPod Touch or Zune HD, but it’s intuitive and straight forward
-Tiny. Not as tiny as the shuffle, but this has a screen and is therefore acceptable
-FM Radio sounds quite nice. Lots of presets
-MicroSD expandability

Cons:

-Included USB cable is incredibly short (~6″) and could stand to take a hint from the Shuffle line and include a dock and longer USB
-Screen does tend to ‘flicker’ just a bit as aforementioned in another review. It’s not as big a deal as I thought, though
-Included earbuds sound quite nice, but do seem overly large in comparison to the iPod buds

Overall, I’m very glad I made this purchase over replacing my Shuffle with a 2G or even 3G.
